We've Arrived

Baby C. and I are officially at my folks' house. Carolyn is trying very hard to settle in, but it's taking some regulation. She's also in the midst of a growth spurt, and she misses her daddy, BUT...

Boy do her grandparents adore her. They are just so in love with her, and I think really enjoying having her here--even if she fusses. I think it's good for Mom.

It's nice to be here, even if it's tough on both of us settling in. It's also made me a lot more busy. The phrase, "busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest" has come to mind many times so far. We haven't even started adding visiting people into the equation. It's mostly good busy though, and precious busy, and worthwhile busy, so we'll take it.

We sure do miss Andy, but that is inevitable. This is where we need to be right now, so we are trying to be content in that.

I'll get back to posting pictures when I have a computer I'm more at peace with. Shouldn't be too long.

Big Weekend

We've had a big weekend. My dad made it safely here, and he is very, very taken with Carolyn. They hit it off right away, and he has had lots of fun talking with her and playing with her and holding her. Very good stuff.

Today we went to church here because we promised Pastor David we'd be there to give him a hug before we took off to the Midwest. Course... I had to get a picture with him and Baby C. He is such a special person to us.

Then my cousin, Luke, came over to eat lunch and meet Carolyn on the way to an audition. Turns out, Luke is a natural with babies... and also cats. We had fun catching up and hanging out.

We're still busy gearing up for our departure on Tuesday. I'm pretty overwhelmed by that in a lot of ways, but ultimately I know it will be good.... For now, we're just giong to enjoy our last family day together tomorrow, groggy though Andy will be with a midnight to 8 a.m. watch.

Today and Yesterday

Today Carolyn gets to meet her Grandpa Frank! We're so excited!!! We'll pick him up from the airport at 1. C and I have a lot to get ready around the house before we leave to go get him (what I should be doing instead of blogging).

Yesterday, Carolyn had her 2 month well baby check up (it was early because of the leaving stuff). She weighs 12 pounds!!! Wow! She's 22 3/4 inches long and her head is 15 1/2 inches around (grow, brain grow!). She also got her shots yesterday... Of course she hated that, and I had a fussy "hold-me, Mommy!" little girl yesterday. I didn't mind too much... Got me out of doing some housework.

I'm sure there will be pictures of Grandpa time this weekend...

Still feeling so torn about leaving Tuesday. I can't wait to be with Mom, but sure don't want to leave my husband.

e.e. cummings

i thank You God for most this amazingday:
for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;
and for everythingwich is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;
this is the birthday of life and love and wings:
and of the gay great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

--e. e. cummings

It helps me breathe.

Expotition Hats

So in case you didn't know, we have these hats... They are our "Expotitioning hats." Andy's came from the days of Civil War re-enacting with his Daddy, and mine came from my Grampa Wherry. We wear them when we go places feeling explorative or adventurous. Of course, Baby Carolyn needed to have an Expotition Hat of her own. This isn't the final one, but it did the job today.

We headed over to the Seaplane Base today and walked along a beach until we determined it was a little too 'offroad' for the stroller to handle--not before we saw some beautiful wildflowers though. After that Baby C. was hungry so we went to the special overlook that Jamie showed us where she had a bite to eat. We figured that would be a good place to take some family Expotitioning Photos, and so... we did.

Daddy's Girl

One of the most precious things that has come out of the last 2 months is the bond that Andy and Carolyn have already. When he walks in the room, she lights up. She smiles great big smiles anytime he gets close to her. And on his side of things it was love at first sight.

We're so grateful that his squadron gave him the opportunity to spend her first two months here with her. It will be very hard for him to leave us, we know. But... how precious these two months have been. We wouldn't take them back no matter how much it hurts when he leaves. It's like what they say in the Shadowlands... The pain then is part of the joy now... and of course, the joy now will be part of the pain then. Both are important and necessary and beautiful.
